Call me a hypocrite – go ahead. But right now I am writing this post from a brand new MacBook. I have come a long from my post – I am not going to buy a Mac – back in April of last year.
Why the change of heart?
I would like to say that I have seen the light and switched, but… the real reason is that the company that I work for is going cross-browser on the software that they develop. That means that my team and I need to make sure that what we do looks good and works properly in Safari. The only way to do that is – you guessed it – to purchase Macs. Right now we only have one for our team but I think that may change in the future.
What do I think so far?
Well I have only had it for the afternoon but for the most part it is cool. There are a few things that are a little weird compared to a PC. One is that there is not a “Delete” key that I have been able to find. There is a key labeled Delete but it is what the backspace key is in Windows.
The other thing that is a little tough to get used to is the lack of a right click button in the embedded mouse. I am an avid right clicker and it slows m down considerably when I need to hunt for a key to press while clicking to bring up a menu.
I guess another thing that I have not been able to figure out is how the permissions work on OS X. I have Administrative permissions on my account but I could not install Dreamweaver or Flash Pro under my account. I had to log out and log in as Administrator. I could though install Firefox and Open Office though. Weird.
Anyway, I will try to keep folks up-to-date as I get more acquainted with “The Mac”.
P.S. You should have seen everyone else in the company drooling over it. I would not be surprised if they start showing up all over the place in my company.
